Android OS

So, i guess everybody knows what Android is, along with Apple's iOS the most used operating system among smartphones and tablets, but just to be sure, in a simple way, just like Windows is to a PC, Android is to your non-apple/windows smartphone.

In this blog we will review the most popular smartphones and tablet computers that work on this operating system (from now on referred as OS), but first we will take a quick look at the OS itself with it's principal features.

This operating system is developed by the giant Google, and had its first version released on 2008, and up to the actual date they have released a pretty big number of versions and subversions correcting bugs and upgrading the futures for a better use of smartphones, and even a version exclusively for tablet computers.

In 2008 we had the first version, Andriod 1.0 on the first Andriod device ever, the HTC Dream, including features as:

-Android Market
-Web Browser
-Gmail
-Google services
-Youtube
-Wifi and Bluetooth support

A curious thing about the versions is that since 2009 each version has come under the codename of a dessert's name and released in alphabetical order, which are

Version 1.5 Cupcake

Andriod 1.6 Donut

Andriod 2.0/2.1 Eclair

Andriod 2.2x Froyo

Android 2.3x Gingerbread

Android 3.x Honeycomb

Android 4.x

This OS is based on Google services, as mentioned on the futures, but other email services are also available   and with the use of the Android Market, the user has access to all kind of applications developed from programmers all over the globe, which have exponentially increased, starting with 2,300 applications on 2009 up to 370,000 applications on November 2011 available on the market and 7billion downloads.

It was on September 23rd of 2008 when Apple's biggest competition was born, and since then different updates were released, upgrading each of the features we mentioned and adding new little things, so that nowadays Android is one of the heavy weights in the mobile OS market.
